Assassination attempt could be ‘wake-up call’ for Trump, says ‘View’ host Sara Haines
NEW YORK — Sara Haines of “The View” voiced hope Monday that the weekend assassination attempt against Donald Trump would be a “wake-up call” for the Republican presidential nominee.
“We already heard that President Trump has changed his remarks at the RNC to have a more unifying tone,” she shared during the show’s opening Hot Topics segment. “Stranger things have happened. People that have had illnesses or near-death experiences, sometimes that can be a wake-up call to change things so I really hope this is a lasting thing.”
All of the co-hosts of the Barbara Walters-created chatfest came to the table condemning political violence of any kind, as they always have.
Though usually critical of Trump, the women shared that they were relieved he survived the Saturday shooting at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally for the candidate, in which one attendee was killed and the attacker died. The co-hosts also doubled down on their views about gun control when discussing suspected gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks.
The panel applauded President Joe Biden’s call for unity during his live primetime address from the Oval Office on Sunday night.
