A pair of drug dealers whose attempt to escape police ended in them getting their car stuck in a Morrisons car park trolley bay have been jailed.

Asim Akram, 37, and Ibrar Hussain, 41, both pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine at Oxford Crown Court in June, and were sentenced this week.

The pair were sought by police after officers were alerted to a red Honda Insight in the car park of a branch of Morrisons in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

After spotting the officers, driver Akram attempted to flee, ramming a marked police vehicle before striking a trolley bay and becoming stuck.

Both Akram and passenger Hussain were detained by officers after their failure to escape.

Officers discovered cash and a number of wraps of crack cocaine and heroin inside the vehicle, with a street value of £4,000.

This week, Akram, of Phillimore Road, Birmingham, was jailed for five years and six months and Hussain, of Foxton Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to three years and four months.

Investigating officer PC Torran O’Dowda said: “I am pleased that the court have passed appropriate prison sentences to these two drug dealers.

“They came into Banbury from outside the Thames Valley to sell their drugs in our communities, and Thames Valley Police will never tolerate such criminal activity.

“Through our Stronghold campaign, we remain committed to working to pursue, disrupt and dismantle County Drug Lines and criminal groups involved in drugs supply, making the Thames Valley a hostile place for dealers.”
