When Malaysia’s largest plywood manufacturer entered the property development sector back in 2007, few could have predicted how easily success would come for the firm.
After carving out a reputable brand across both Asia and Europe, Asia Plywood Company’s founder Tan Boon Huat launched Asia Green Property Development with the objective of delivering high-quality residential projects, ranging from affordable homes to upscale resort-style villas.
With a current project value of more than MYR395 million (USD97.7 million) and a maiden appearance at this year’s PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Malaysia), the future — touch wood — looks bright for the company’s Penang-focused property arm.
Its latest development, Quay West Residence, demonstrates how far the developer has come in little over a decade. Located a few kilometres south of George Town in Penang’s premium Queensbay neighbourhood, the twin tower condominium project, featuring two 24-storey buildings, provides residents with sweeping ocean vistas, easy access to many of the island’s cultural and lifestyle attractions, and high-end onsite amenities set amidst verdant landscaping.
Indeed, it is the design of the enveloping area that convinced the judging panel at this year’s awards to present Asia Green Property Development with the coveted Best Landscape Architectural Design trophy.
“The landscape architecture at Quay West Residence by Asia Green Group is quirky, sophisticated, and clever,” the panel members noted. “Greenery seemingly floats on water, creating a seaside resort-feel, while a tree stands in the core of the communal lounge, visible through transparent walls as a swirl of timber decking cascades around the outside.”
The first thing residents will notice upon arrival at the 1,235-unit property is the manicured green areas, accented by tasteful water features, including a waterfall, positioned to immediately evoke a sense of peace and relaxation.
Inspired by the resorts of Florida’s legendary Key West, the unique design capitalises on proximity to the ocean, with coastal-facing facades and flowing typography that connects communal spaces, nature, and strategically-positioned facilities.
Amongst the family-orientated, resort-style facilities is the collection of rooftop gardens, private terraces, and sky-high communal areas, as well a yoga deck and infinity pool, all offering impressive views of the waterfront and Pulau Jerejak.
Atop the podium level, the gym overlooks the swimming pools below, including volcano Jacuzzis and leisure pools. Young ones can kick back in the play area, while the clubhouse, lounge area, and multipurpose hall can accommodate quiet and moments and social gatherings.
With Quay West Residence’s convenient location in the southern suburbs of George Town, nearby lifestyle amenities are aplenty. Queensbay Mall, the island’s largest shopping centre is only 500 metres away, while the highways and major roads link this up-and-coming district directly to the centre of George Town and rest of the island.
Banks, clinics, restaurants, and local eateries are also within easy reach, in addition to reputable educational institutes including Sungai Nibong National School and D’Monte Kindergarten, as well as Chung Hwa Confucian High School and INTI International College.
