Ashlee Simpson’s Y2K-era music reached more than just millennials thanks to an old Miley Cyrus cover.

In 2009, the Grammy-winning “Flowers” singer, 31, released her rendition of the Ashlee Simpson Show star’s 2005 song “Kicking and Screaming” on her The Time of Our Lives EP. The track was originally featured as an international bonus song on Simpson’s sophomore album, I Am Me.

The “Pieces of Me” singer, 39, reflected on the nostalgic track in a recent interview with Stereogum, where she recalled how her daughter Jagger brought Cyrus’ cover to her attention.

“My daughter was like, ‘Listen to this, Mom.’ I was like, ‘I wrote that,’” Simpson told the publication.

Now, how did the former reality star’s 8-year-old daughter stumble across the nearly 20-year-old song? According to Simpson, “[She heard it] from listening to Hannah Montana Spotify” — the radio station dedicated to the character Cyrus famously portrayed on her Disney Channel show of the same name.

As the mom of three noted, she did co-write “Kicking and Screaming,” but wasn’t credited for it on Cyrus’ EP. When asked how she felt about it, Simpson simply told Stereogum, “No, I didn’t push back.”
