Ashanti and Nelly Welcomed Their First Child Together

The baby arrived on July 18, 2024.

Earlier this year, Ashanti and Nelly shared that they were expecting their first child together and now, People confirmed that the R&B star and the rapper have welcomed their son, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024. The two officially married on December 27, 2023, after first dating in 2003 and rekindling their romance two decades later.

"Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024. The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!" a representative for the couple told People. Ashanti, whose full name is Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, also shared the news on Instagram.

In her carousel of photos, Ashanti wrote, "Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do" as she posed for a mirror selfie wearing a gray set, silky patterned robe, and Frida Mom postpartum underwear.

"Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time...lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!" she also added to the post's caption, throwing it back to one of her biggest hits.

Nelly and Ashanti first shared the news that they were expecting with Essence, also mentioning that they were engaged during an interview with the publication.

"This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation," Ashanti said at the time. "Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience."

Nelly has two children from a previous relationship with Channetta Valentine: son Cornell III, 25, and daughter, Chanelle (who goes by Nana), 30. Nelly also adopted and helped raise his niece and nephew, Sydney and Shawn, after the passing of his sister, Jackie Donahue, in 2005.
