An artist’s plea for the re-opening of cultural institutions

With museums across the world still closed

French artist JR's new installation on the façade of Florence’s Strozzi Palace

highlights the current inaccessibility of cultural spaces

Directors of the Palazzo Strozzi said they wanted to create a dialogue

between the ancient and the contemporary

Instead, it seems the conversation is about cultural experiences

in a time of lockdowns

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ARTIST JR SAYING: "I think in art you raise questions you don't really give answers but through this wound, through this 'ferita' you can actually see inside of the museum. And in moments like now when everyone realize the need for culture, it is a way of re-opening the museum, like showing an open wound on the museum so we can see what is happening inside."
