Arteta is ‘willing to sell’ Arsenal star to rivals Chelsea as ‘two Spanish clubs’ eye defender
Arsenal are ready to sell Emile Smith Rowe to Chelsea with Mikel Arteta giving the green light to his sale, according to reports.
The Gunners have allowed a number of fringe players to move on this summer with Matt Turner, Granit Xhaka, Auston Trusty and Pablo Mari leaving on permanent deals, while Kieran Tierney and Marquinhos have left on loan.
And now Arsenal could allow one of their academy graduates to leave the club with Premier League rivals Chelsea showing an interest in Smith Rowe, who spent a lot of last season out injured.
Smith Rowe didn’t manage a Premier League start last season, coming off the bench on 12 occasions, and hasn’t featured for Arteta’s side in their opening three matches of this campaign.
A report on Monday insisted that Smith Rowe is currently being considered by Chelsea along with Barcelona duo Raphinha and Ferran Torres as Mauricio Pochettino looks for another attacker before the transfer deadline.
The negotiations for Smith Rowe are ‘not advanced’ as it stands but the Blues intend to go after one of the trio before September 1.

And now The Times claims Arsenal are ‘willing to sell’ Smith Rowe to Chelsea and the 23-year-old ‘has been offered to other unnamed Premier League clubs’.
Rob Holding could also be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano saying that there are two unnamed Spanish clubs after the former Bolton centre-back.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “There are two clubs in Spain interested in Rob Holding, I can’t mention which ones yet but there’s interest. Besiktas asked for conditions of the deal in July, though they’re no longer on it at the moment.
“I’m not aware of any change on the Gabriel Magalhaes situation as of now, but Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga remain both available on the market.”
Gary Neville has urged Arsenal boss Arteta “to go back to basics” after witnessing the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.
“I think they’re at different stages. Arsenal are expected to challenge for the league with the business they have done,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.
“There’s a lot of pressure on Kai Havertz but give the lad a chance and let him settle into the team.
“I would say that for me, looking at Arsenal, there is an element of experimentation and this expectation that full-backs think they can play midfield and midfielders think they can play at full-back.
“Thomas Partey is playing half-and-half in a game and sometimes there is an element that you need to go back to basics.
“I would expect next week that Arteta is going to end that experiment and probably go with a solid back four with four defenders.
“He will maybe move Partey into midfield along with [Declan] Rice and Martin Odegaard, to get back to something which resembles what a team should look like.
“Balancing a team is very important. Innovation is fantastic, we love seeing new things, but sometimes something that started as a good idea evolves into something that, to be fair, just doesn’t work.
“I feel there is that with Arsenal. Next week, I’d expect them to go back to something that resembles the team that played last season and get back to those basics of what they are – which is a 4-3-3 team.
“If they’re on the ball up the pitch, if [Oleksandr] Zinchenko is left-back, he pops into midfield. Obviously Ben White or [Takehiro] Tomiyasu at right-backs tucks round to make that three. That will work.”
