Mikel Arteta praised his Arsenal players for putting in an “incredible” performance after they came from behind to beat Man Utd 3-2 on Sunday.

There was pressure on Arsenal heading into Sunday’s game against Man Utd at the Emirates as rivals Man City beat Wolves earlier in the day to reduce the deficit at the top.

But they came out firing and had United on the back foot from the first minute. The visitors were able to go ahead against the run of play as Marcus Rashford continued his fine form with a goal from 25 yards out.

Arsenal’s heads did not go down though and they were able to equalise shortly after. Eddie Nketiah headed home after being expertly set up by Granit Xhaka.

This spurred Arsenal on even more and a top-drawer strike from Bukayo Saka made it 2-1 to the hosts shortly after half-time.

Lisandro Martinez restored parity once again but Arsenal came on strong towards the end and scored a deserved third goal near the end. Martin Odegaard’s scuffed shot fell to Nketiah, who tapped the ball home to win the game for his side.

The Gunners are now five points clear of Man City and they still have a game in hand over their rivals. The two sides meet next weekend in the FA Cup.

Arteta said post-match that his side “never panicked” as they looked to find a third goal.

“Emotional, a lot of passion. It doesn’t get much better than that. The second half especially, the performance was incredible,” Arteta told Sky Sports.

“We were composed and determined at the same time. We never panicked. We always believed that we could win it. We showed the right composure in the box a lot of times but the ball didn’t go in. Thankfully at the end, it did.”

On his yellow card: “Can’t complain. You can always get better in life.”

On waiting for VAR to allow Arsenal’s winning goal: “We experienced something similar v Newcastle but today it went our way.

“I don’t want to talk about individuals. We took the ball and made things happen. They are young but they are confident to do it.”

On Arsenal’s best-ever start to a Premier League season: “It’s great and we deserve to be where we are because of how we’re playing. But there are a lot of things that we can do much better.”

“We’ve been talking about pressure for the last 12 or 13 games. Premier League teams will always make it difficult and we have to prepare for that.”

On transfers: “Just in terms of numbers, we had 15 or 16 outfield players and it wasn’t enough. They are going to help us. You saw Trossard is composed and confident already.”
