Art on cakes: Jordanian artists have new canvas

This Jordanian artist uses cake as his canvas

who looks for artists to paint on her cakes

Chocolate is used as a surface to paint on

Natural dye is used for coloring

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) JORDANIAN CAKE DESIGNER, LINA QTEISHAT, SAYING:

"I wanted to introduce hand drawing and painting by artists. We have many artists who are brilliant and their work is lovely. I thought why not draw on cakes? If we can draw on anything, why not cake?"

Despite higher prices, Qteishat says demand is high

as people enjoy personalizing cakes for their loved ones

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) JORDANIAN ARTIST, JEHAD HADDAD, SAYING: "Cakes pose a challenge because you are dealing with an untraditional surface that differs every time. It gets affected by temperature and the ingredients. Each cake gets a different treatment. There is a challenge every time and artists always want a challenge."
