Arsenal ‘wait in wings’ for Lazio ‘one man show’ as cheap alternative to one of £190m duo
Arsenal are reportedly ‘waiting in the wings’ to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a cheap alternative for one of their two top targets.
Mikel Arteta is looking to revamp his midfield this summer, with reports suggesting the Arsenal boss wants to make two additions to bolster the heart of his team.
West Ham star Declan Rice and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo are thought to be his top targets, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein claiming Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus are also on their shortlist.
Ornstein told Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five YouTube channel that although he expects Arsenal to sign two midfielders, the price tags of Rice (£100m) and Caicedo (£90m) mean they may have to sign one and not the other.
He said: “It perhaps illustrates that Mikel Arteta really wants a prominent signing in there to help this squad going forward. So I’m really intrigued to see in which direction they go. Many Arsenal fans asking me all the time.
“We know the interest in Declan Rice is strong. We knew the interest in Moises Caicedo was strong. I don’t know which way they’ll go, or if there are other options.
“I don’t think they would go for both given the costs involved. Let’s see, because those clubs have to be willing sellers.”

Given that need to potentially skimp on a second addition, the Gunners could act on their interest in Milinkovic-Savic.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) a ‘hot summer is expected’ for the Lazio star, who has been a ‘one man show’ for the Serie A side in recent weeks.
The 28-year-old has one year left on his contract with Lazio, whom he joined eight years ago from Genk, and having been endlessly linked with a move to the Premier League, could finally do so this summer.
It’s claimed Arsenal are ‘ready to move’ for the Serbian, whom Lazio president Claudio Lotito is willing to let go for around €40m.
Milinkovic-Savic has reportedly told Lotito that he does not want to leave the club on a free, which means that if new terms aren’t agreed he will be on he move this summer, to Arsenal or elsewhere.
