Conflicting reports have emerged regarding Arsenal and their apparent interest in signing wantaway Brighton and Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard.
The midfielder was in great form for the Seagulls at the start of this campaign as he has been involved in nine goals in his 16 Premier League outings.
He and his agent are clearly hoping that this form will earn him a move elsewhere with his contract at Brighton up in the summer. They do have the option to extend his deal until 2024, though.
Trossard has not featured for Brighton in recent games due to his ongoing “attitude” problems. It has even been suggested that he has been ‘banished’ from training.
His agent has publicly butted heads with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi of late. The head coach indicated earlier this week that Trossard’s representative is attempting to seal him a move elsewhere.
“Nothing serious happened with Trossard. But recently, he didn’t give 100 per cent in training and on matchday, that’s it on my side.
“Football deserves respect. I don’t have to apologise for anything.
De Zerbi added: “Maybe his agent fancies selling him for a lower transfer fee… surely, Trossard didn’t tell me the truth.
“Everyone in the dressing room knows how things went. But if Trossand wants to rejoin us with the right attitude, I am happy to coach him.”
Trossard has reportedly been offered to several Premier League clubs but Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be the main clubs interested in him. He is expected to cost around £25m if he leaves Brighton this month.
The Gunners are in the market for attacking options after they failed to sign Joao Felix and Mykhaylo Mudryk. Football Insider are reporting that they are ‘lining up alternative targets’.
But they are ‘not planning to join Tottenham in the chase’ for Trossard. Spurs recently ‘submitted an offer’ to sign the Belgium international but this was rejected by their Premier League rivals.
A separate report from Fabrizio Romano offers an alternative take, with Trossard ‘a possibility’ for Arsenal. But he does note that Tottenham are ‘more likely’ to sign him.
“Tottenham is exploring the situation with Leandro Trossard right now. He is a very good player and he is available on the market now,” Romano told wetfruende.
“So, Tottenham are in conversations with Trossard but at the moment their talks are not very advanced.”
He added: “Arsenal could also be interested after the situation with Mudryk and I think the next few days will be crucial for Arsenal and they have to decide what they want now.
“So, Arsenal is a possibility for Trossard, but I think Tottenham are more likely to sign him.”
