Arsenal tipped to hijack Liverpool move for Brighton sensation after ‘huge boost;’ release clause revealed
Arsenal have been handed a ‘huge boost’ in the pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, according to reports.
The 21-year-old is a key target for Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as Arsenal. So, it would be a major coup if the Gunners win the race for his signature.
Until now, Roberto de Zerbi has seemed determined to keep Caicedo for at least another season. However, Brighton are now reportedly ‘resigned’ to losing him.
As noted by TEAMtalk, Arsenal submitted a £65m bid for Caicedo in the January window, which the Seagulls rejected.
This was despite the Ecuador international making his desire to leave very public on social media.
However, in March, Caicedo signed a new contract with the Seagulls, which is set to run until 2027.
But, according to Football Insider, it contains a release clause that will ‘become active this summer.’
Seagulls have reportedly changed their stance on the Ecuador international and will let him leave if a suitable transfer offer arrives.
They note that this news comes as a ‘huge boost’ to Arsenal, who are still very interested in signing Caicedo at the end of the season.
Arsenal tipped to beat Liverpool, Chelsea to Caicedo
It’s no secret that Arteta is keen to bring in at least one new midfielder ahead of next season. Indeed, West Ham captain Declan Rice is widely regarded as Arsenal’s primary transfer target.
But, with Granit Xhaka looking set to join former club Bayer Leverkusen this summer, Arsenal could be in need of more than one midfield recruit.
Now, the Gunners could potentially come back in for Caicedo, after seeing their January bid rejected.
This season, the Brighton star has made 34 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal and making one assist. He has played a key role in the Seagull’s success, who currently sit in an impressive sixth place.
As mentioned, Caicedo’s fine performances this season have attracted the interest of several top clubs. Liverpool and Chelsea, for instance, are still firmly in the race for the midfielder.
Interestingly, Liverpool could potentially sign two Brighton player’s this summer – with Jurgen Klopp desperate to sign Alexis Mac Allister – who is also believed to have a release clause in his contract.
Clearly, Arsenal have a battle on their hands for Caicedo.
Football Insider do not reveal the full details of his release clause, but they do suggest Arsenal are the favourites to sign him.
