Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Brighton forward Leandro Trossard after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to reports.
The Gunners were beaten to the signing of Mudryk last night as Shakhtar Donetsk announced that they were ‘very close’ to agreeing a fee with Chelsea for the Ukraine international.
Mudryk is expected to complete his move to Stamford Bridge today and the winger has been spotted in the stands as Chelsea host Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
And the Independent insists that Arsenal will now focus their attention elsewhere and that the Premier League leaders ‘still want to make two signings in this window’.
Leandro Trossard is one player who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this month and the Independent claims he has now ‘been offered’ to Arsenal.
Barcelona winger Raphinha ‘has also come up as an option as the Catalan club again attempt to balance finances’ with the Gunners previously interested in the former Leeds United man.
A couple of new signings could help Arsenal lift the Premier League title this season with Mikel Arteta’s side currently five points clear of second-placed Manchester City ahead of the north London derby on Sunday.
And former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra thinks Arsenal will beat Tottenham in the match this afternoon.
“[Arsenal] should beat Tottenham, I don’t see why they can’t win,” Evra told The Metro.
“It’s a derby, anything can happen, the wrong decision and injustice, but I just don’t see why they can’t win. They have to be careful of Tottenham because Conte and the players are really hurt.
“It’s going to be a big game but when you look at what’s going on with both sides at the moment you have to give credit to Arsenal. They have to win every game if they want to win the title, and they can.”
But Merson told his Sportskeeda column that his former club Arsenal will be held to a draw this weekend, he said: “I think (Martin) Odegaard and (Bukayo) Saka have been great.
“Everyone has been outstanding for Arsenal, and that’s why they are where they are. Tottenham, on the other hand, are nine on ten in one game and five in the next. Harry Kane causes Arsenal problems, and Arsenal cause Tottenham problems.
“If Tottenham want to play defensively, Arsenal will run out of ideas quickly like they did against Newcastle. If Tottenham play a dangerous game, however, Arsenal could run riot.
“I don’t see this game as a foregone conclusion – I hope Arsenal wipe the floor with Tottenham, but I don’t think they will. I’m going 2-2.”
