Premier League club Arsenal are yet to submit an official offer for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, according to reports in France.

The Gunners have already signed Fabio Vieira from Porto this summer to boost their midfield options but there are rumours that technical director Edu and Mikel Arteta will look to bring in another.

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Lyon’s Paqueta seem like the most likely options with reports in recent weeks linking both players to the Emirates Stadium.

Transfer gossip: Arsenal reach £30m agreement for next signing; Man Utd want German

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed earlier this month that there had been “proposals” for Paqueta with the Ligue 1 club understood to be demanding €80m (£68m) for his signature.

“There are proposals for him,” Aulas told reporters. “There are certain players who can feel complete in the project, and others who don’t. Economically, we have the means to pursue our ideas and objectives.”

On Paqueta’s future, Aulas said: “The coach gave us his opinion and there is also what the players wants to do.”

A report earlier this week claimed that Arsenal boss Arteta had ‘personally approved’ the signing of Paqueta with the Gunners hoping they can sign him for significantly less than the mooted asking price.

But French oulet Media Foot claims that Arsenal ‘have not yet submitted an offer’ for the Brazilian but the Gunners transfer team ‘are hot’ on the midfielder.

Arteta is ‘pushing for the recruitment of the Brazilian midfielder who could bring an obvious technical dimension’ and Lyon are ‘aware’ of Arsenal’s interest with a bid ‘in preparation’.

Lyon and Arsenal have an ‘excellent’ relationship which will be an ‘asset’ for the Gunners when discussing Paqueta with Media Foot suspecting the French club can count on a deal ‘exceeding €50million’.

Paqueta ‘feels good’  in Lyon but with Newcastle – and now Arsenal – interested, he is ‘tempted by a new challenge’ and he ‘will leave’ if all parties can agree on a deal.

Speaking recently on Paqueta, Lyon head coach Peter Bosz said: “I want to keep all the good players, but you also have to be realistic.

“Lucas is a very important player, but it depends on what the player wants. I already had a conversation with him, but that will be between us.”
