Arsenal and Newcastle are set to battle for highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby this summer, according to reports.

Both Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe are thought to be in the market for attackers at the moment. Now, we could potentially see the Premier League rivals enter into a bidding war for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Diaby is considered to be one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga on his day. So, it would be a major coup for Arsenal or Newcastle to sign him.

Since joining Leverkusen in 2019, the France international has made 167 appearances across all competitions. In the process, he has scored 49 goals and made 48 assists, giving him an impressive record of 0.58 goal contributions per match.

This season, Diaby has continued his good form, netting nine and assisting nine in 30 Bundesliga outings so far. As a result, it’s no surprise to see several clubs in the race for his signature.

Indeed, Arsenal and Newcastle have had Diaby on their radar’s for months now.

However, he will not come cheap, with Leipzig valuing him at approximately £50m, according to Transfermarkt

Arsenal, Newcastle eye attacking recruits

As mentioned, both Arsenal and Newcastle could look to bring in multiple attackers this summer. Now, they have registered an ‘official interest’ in Diaby, according to the Telegraph.

Both teams have had tremendous seasons, currently sitting in second and third place in the Premier League table respectively.

However, if they want to go one step further and challenge for the league title consistently, they need more depth in key areas. With that in mind, a move for Diaby could prove to be a great bit of business.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been outstanding under Arteta this season, playing a key role in the Gunners success so far. Arsenal have the likes of Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson as backup options, too.

As for Newcastle, attackers such as Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy and Joelinton have all played a role in their success.

But, Howe has repeatedly emphasised the importance of the Magpies bringing in some ‘elite’ players this summer, and Diaby certainly fits into that category.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal or Newcastle do make a concrete offer for Diaby, as expected.

Ultimately, the Frenchman’s next destination may come down to whichever club is willing to pay the most. As it stands, however, a switch to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely.
