Arsenal will require “crazy, crazy money” to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mudryk has emerged as one of the hottest young talents in Europe with his recent displays for Shakhtar Donetsk.
He was particularly impressive in the Ukrainian side’s Champions League opener against RB Leipzig, scoring one and assisting another two in their 4-1 win over RB Leipzig.
Everton made a late bid of €30m for Mudryk in the summer, which was rejected by Shakhtar, and Arsenal were also in contact with his representatives over a transfer to the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta was keen to bring a new winger to the club following Nicolas Pepe’s loan move to Ligue 1 club Nice.
In an interview with CBS Sports last week, Mudryk was asked about Arsenal’s interest and admitted they are a “very good team” with a “very good coach” in Arteta.
“Shakhtar for me is my home,” the 21-year-old said. “All my thoughts are only about Shakhtar.
“In winter we [will] see.
“I think every guy dreams about [playing in the] Premier League.
“Arsenal is a very good team. Very good coach. I like the way they play.
“From my side, I can’t say no [to Arsenal], but a transfer is not only my decision.”
Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have a chance of completing a deal in January, but revealed they will require a very significant bid.
“When I was speaking to my sources during the summer about Mudryk to understand what’s going to happen with clubs around Europe, they told me from Shakhtar, they really think this guy is worth way more than €30 million,” he told Que Golazo, as he noted that Arsenal have a chance.
“They received a proposal on the final week of the transfer window, €30 million plus add-ons from Everton. And they decided to say no after Antony to Manchester United for €100 million. They said, ‘for us, Mudryk can’t be sold for €30, or €35, or €40 million. We want way more than this’.
“So this is why in the end they decided to keep the player, because they are convinced that they are going to sell him for crazy, crazy money.”
