Arsenal brace themselves for offers as Bayern Munich set summer sights on 18-goal frontman
Arsenal have been going well this season under Mikel Arteta and they are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window once again.
The Gunners will have their full attention on the Premier League right now, but that doesn’t slow down the rumour mill. As Arteta will be looking to make some additions in the summer, some high profile players could also leave.
Folarin Balogun has been one player in particular who has impressed this season while out on loan in France. Across all competitions, he has scored 18 goals this season for Reims.
In January there was even some talk of Arsenal recalling the in-form striker as they were without Gabriel Jesus. The loan move has done wonders for his development and now several sides are said to be interested.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, clubs such as Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, Monaco, Real Sociedad and Villarreal are all interested in Balogun.
Only Kylian Mbappe and Jonathan David have scored more goals in Ligue 1 this season than Balogun. He’s even managed to outscore the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Arsenal hold the cards when it comes to his future though as he is contracted with the club until 2025. Arteta has done a great job of developing Arsenal’s youngsters and Balogun would be a good fit in this Arsenal side.
Although as they already have the likes of Jesus and Eddie Nketiah to depend upon, they could consider cashing in on Balogun while his stock is high.
How much is Balogun worth?
As he still has several years to run on his Arsenal contract, they are in a strong position to dictate his value. Recent reports suggested they would value him at a minimum of £35million.
Natural goalscorers are the hardest thing to find in football and so Arsenal are justified in their valuation. Considering he is just 21 years old, his best years are still ahead of him yet.
Arteta himself has been pleased with the development of Balogun this year. If he continues at this rate, he could be a useful player next season.
“I’m so happy for him,” Arteta told the club website. “He’s a boy that has a really clear idea of what he wants to do with his career. He’s really ambitious, really committed and really brave.
“We discussed a lot before he made that move whether it was the right place to go and the other choices he had. He was so convinced. I’m really happy for him because he deserves what he’s getting.
“When you look at the numbers and what he is doing, it’s just incredible. It’s very rare to see that. But he’s got something special, that’s why we decided to give him a long-term contract and have faith in him.”
Bayern Munich’s interest does make sense as they are looking to secure a new long-term forward. However, Arsenal themselves will need to come to a decision over his future.
