The potential transfer of Marcus Thuram to either Arsenal or Aston Villa could be simple, with Borussia Monchengladbach soon to have their ‘last chance’.

Arsenal’s initial interest in the French striker was reported during last season. For Villa, the interest has cropped up only recently.

There are a few reasons that the interest makes sense. Firstly, given how potent a player Thuram has been over the course of the current campaign.

While he has shown he had quality over the last few seasons, he has been electric of late. To this point, he has scored 10 league goals, and provided three assists.

His goals tally is already equal to the best of his career, and he has played just 15 Bundesliga games this term. The Frenchman is currently the second-leading goalscorer in the league, behind Christopher Nkunku.

As well as his form contributing to Villa’s interest, the influence of Unai Emery likely helps.

Indeed, the new manager will be keen on adding some more talent to his squad to make it his own.

Thuram seems like the kind of player that would thrive in the Premier League. Villa could well give him a platform to succeed in England.

Monchengladbach have ‘last chance’ with Thuram

The fact that a deal could come on the cheap is likely another reason both Arsenal and Villa are keen.

Indeed, the Frenchman’s deal is up in summer 2023. If he does not renew, Monchengladbach will need to sell him to guarantee a fee.

That, coupled with another reason for needing to sell, could mean he is sure to move on in January. Indeed, Sky Sports reports that they are ‘dependant on’ sales to make winter signings.

With the fact that they could be consigned to losing him anyway, a sale might be the best course of action.

At least then, there will be some benefit from the situation for them.

Arsenal, Villa have great opportunity

As such, that will play into the hands of Arsenal and Villa. Both sides could have the chance at an easy transfer, should they want to take it.

While there will likely be a contest between the sides, the transfer could well be a fairly cheap one.

Previous reports have stated Thuram could cost less than £25million.

Signing a striker for that sort of money in the form he in would be a steal.
