Arrivals From Wuhan at Guangzhou Airport Screened for Coronavirus Symptoms

Chinese officials have been screening arrivals from Wuhan for coronavirus symptoms, as they attempt to stop the spread of the virus that has killed at least 26 people as of January 24, according to the WHO, CDC, NHC and Dingxiangyuan.

A passenger travelling from Wuhan recorded this video at Guangzhou Airport. It shows some of the screenings taking place, with officials in overalls recording the temperatures of passengers before they are allowed to proceed into the arrivals area.

According to a situation report posted by the World Health Organization on January 22, health officials are taking temperatures and installing infrared monitors in heavily trafficked transport areas to try to help contain the outbreak.

Though millions traditionally travel across China for Lunar New Year, which falls on January 25 this year, authorities have canceled large celebrations in places such as Beijing, and even put the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak began, under partial lockdown in attempts to stop the virus from spreading.
