Armed Officers Seen in Houston Classroom After False Report of Active Shooter

A false report of a shooter at a high school in Houston, Texas, provoked what police called an “appropriate” armed response on September 13, with video showing officers in one of the classrooms.

Footage recorded by a student shows the officers amid a bemused class of students.

The Houston Police Department said they responded to a report of a shooter shortly after 1 pm on Tuesday.

The mother of the student who recorded this video posted it on Twitter, saying: “Our schools look like a war zone‼️ Armed SWAT and officers entered classrooms after a call was made stating there was an active shooter.”

She added: “This is the new reality for our kids who are just trying to learn and live another day.”

In a press conference, Constable Alan Rosen said that “every parent here should be thankful this was not an active shooter and that law enforcement was here to do its job.”

Police Chief Troy Finner said he was proud of the responders, who descended to the school “within minutes.”

Rosen tweeted the next day that he was “at peace” that this turned out to be a false alarm, but added that whoever made the false report would be held accountable. Credit: @ggqt3 via Storyful
