Armed Citizens Defend Minneapolis Store as Looting Follows George Floyd Protests

Armed civilians took to guarding stores in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 27, as looting followed protests over the death of George Floyd.

A journalist with the Minnesota Reformer, Max Nesterak, shared this footage of two men armed with assault rifles standing outside a tobacco store on Minnehaha Avenue.

“It’s about damn time that some heavily armed rednecks stood with fellow citizens,” says one of the men who explained they support the protests but not the looting.

“I figure before there were cops there were just Americans. So here we are,” the second man adds. “Bottom line: justice for Floyd and I hope they stop looting at some point.”

Protests have continued in the city since May 26, the day after video circulated on social media of a Minnesota police officer pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee on his neck.
