Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury tests positive for COVID-19, will miss game vs. Browns
The Arizona Cardinals will be without head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Sunday.
Kingsbury, the team announced on Friday night, was one of three people in the organization to test positive for COVID-19. He, along with quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive lineman Zach Allen, will miss the game at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.
The Cardinals have yet to travel to Cleveland for the game, and are scheduled to do so on Saturday. The NFL, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, isn’t considering making any changes to the game due to the outbreak. The Cardinals are “going into enhanced mitigation protocols," meaning every player and staff member will be tested for the coronavirus daily regardless of their vaccination status.
Arizona linebacker Chandler Jones also landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, and Kingsbury said at the time that Jones was symptomatic.
Kingsbury said last month that, after having one of the lowest vaccination rates in the league during training camp, the entire Cardinals roster was fully vaccinated.
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers will take over for Kingsbury in his absence on Sunday.
Kingsbury is in his third season in the NFL with the Cardinals, and has compiled an 18-18-1 overall record. The Cardinals are the NFL's last remaining undefeated team after starting the season 5-0.
