Argentines demand justice after teen femicide

Semi-nude protesters wrapped themselves in plastic to protest the murder of 19-year-old Ursula Bahillo who was stabbed to death.

The victim's former boyfriend, a Buenos Aires Province police officer, was arrested for his alleged role in the murder. According to reports, Bahillo had previously reported her former boyfriend to authorities for violence.

Protesters are demanding the government end the growing issue of gender-based violence and femicides in Argentina and called on the government to allocate funds to stop gender violence.

Bahillo's mother Patricia Nasutti met with President Alberto Fernandez to discuss the case, with Fernandez promising his assistance to ensure justice be done.

During Argentina's recent quarantine there were 50 femicides reported in the country, an increase of almost a third when compared to the same period in 2018, said La Casa del Encuentro, an Argentine human rights group.
