Argentina's President Javier Milei changed his arrangements at the last moment and decided to participate in the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, news agency La Nacion reported on June 11, citing sources.

It took few hours for him to change his trips' arrangements and therefore go to Switzerland immediately after his visit to Italy scheduled for June 15.

He made this decision "following a specific request from the Ukrainian President," media reported. Foreign Minister Diana Mondino will accompany him - she was excluded from the trip to Italy and will represent Argentina at the summit with Defense Minister Luis Petri until noon on June 15.

Javier Milei will not participate in the peace summit in Switzerland, as he wants to be in his country for national holidays on June 17 and 20, La Nacion reported on June 7.

He decided to shorten his trip to Europe for this reason.

Global Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16

The first Global Peace Summit will be held on June 15-16 in the Swiss resort town of Burgenstock, near Lucerne.

107 countries have confirmed participation in the summit as of June 3, the Presidential Office (PO) reported.

Russia will not be present at the meeting.

The PO doesn't rule out Russia's participation in future summits, but not at the inaugural meeting of world leaders, Yermak said.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry admitted that the peace process is "unthinkable" without Russia.

The summit is expected to include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other world leaders.

Vice President Kamala Harris will come to the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland instead of US President Joe Biden.

Participation in the first Global Peace Summit in Switzerland was confirmed by about 90 countries and organizations out of about 160 invitees, it was reported on June 10. Turkey and South Africa have not yet confirmed their participation, India will be present at the summit, but it is not known at what level.

Ukrainian intelligence has reliable information that Russia wants to disrupt the summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on April 24.

China refused to participate in the peace summit in Switzerland, Reuters, citing its own sources, reported on May 31. China officially confirmed this information later.

Beijing is trying to disrupt the Global Peace Summit scheduled for June 15-16 in Switzerland, Zelenskyy said at a June 2 press conference in Singapore.
