Archbishop blames 'Jewish extremists' for vandalism
STORY: On Tuesday (January 3), Israel police said they were investigating the vandalisation of gravestones at the Protestant Mount Zion Cemetery.
Security camera footage circulating on social media showed two young men, one dressed in Orthodox Jewish garb, entering the graveyard, pulling down a cross-shaped tombstone and smashing it with rocks. Reuters could not immediately verify the footage.
"It really grieves us to see what happened today and especially over the New Year holiday... I asked that an action will be taken for the perpetrators to be put to law," Naoum told reporters.
Israel's Foreign Ministry condemned the incident.
