Just when you think you really don’t need a new iPhone or Apple gadget in your life, along come the wizards from Cupertino, with a swathe of new gadgets that have you swooning like a lovesick teen.

I felt sure that I could make it through this week’s big Apple reveals without pangs of FOMO, but sure enough, I’m now hankering for some delicious new Apple kit. Here’s what caught my eye…

The biggest hit of Apple’s ‘Spring Loaded’ event has to be its new iMacs. These ultra slim (just 11.5mm thin) all-in-one desktop computers sport the brand’s lightning fast M1 processor, boasts a crisp and colour rich 24-Inch 4.5K Retina display, a 3D sound system, and most importantly come in a choice of seven sumptuous colours, including design friendly pastel shades. Green, pink, blue, silver, yellow, orange or purple? I can’t decide.

Prices start at £1,249 and they’re available to order from April 30. Simply put, they’re gorgeous.

iPhone 12

The good news is, if you opt for a purple iMac, you can also coordinate it with a matching iPhone 12. The all new purple finish is available for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini. Nothing else changes, the mobile features the same dual-camera system as its stablemates, plus class-leading water resistance, handy insurance against any unfortunate bathroom accidents.

AirTags

Completely new from Apple are AirTags, a new must-have iPhone accessory that offers a secure way to locate items of value. Working in conjunction with Apple’s Find My app, the AirTag can be attached to a handbag, keys, backpack, or popped in the pocket of a checked coat.

Small and lightweight, AirTag discs are water and dust-resistant, and feature a built-in speaker. Once paired with your iPhone, they can be named for easy tracking, appearing as a new Item in the Find My app. If misplaced and within Bluetooth range, Siri can ask it to chirp its location. Outside of Bluetooth, the Find My network, comprising a billion Apple devices, can help track it down. Now that’s what I call leverage.

AirTags are available in one and four packs for £29 and £99 respectively, beginning April 30. I reckon these are going to be a huge hit.

Last but not least, Apple also upgraded its Apple TV 4K TV streamer. A rival to Amazon’s Fire TV and Google Chromecast, the new model has an upgraded video performance, including Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, and comes with a much improved aluminium Siri-enabled remote control. A neat new clickpad control offers more accurate navigation and fast directional swipes.

Streaming apps comprise Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video. You also get a free year of Apple TV+ included when you buy one.

Just as well. I’m feeling a strong need to rewatch The Colour Purple…
