Anya Taylor-Joy confirms she secretly married musician Malcolm McRae 2 years ago
The "Queen's Gambit" star posted pics of her New Orleans wedding on her Instagram.
Taking a page from the Janet Jackson Matrimonial Playbook, Anya Taylor-Joy secretly wed her partner, musician Malcolm McRae, in a Southern gothic-inspired New Orleans wedding on April 1, 2022.
The Mad Max: Furiosa star confirmed her clandestine nuptials on Instagram, sharing a few photos from the big day — "anatomically correct heart cakes" and all.

Malcolm McRae and Anya Taylor-Joy"Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans," Taylor-Joy captioned her wedding post. "The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest."
Taylor-Joy included an image of "bloody" heart-shaped cakes — like the organ, not a Valentine — confirming that, "Yes, I am the vampire Lestat" — referring to Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, which is also set in New Orleans.
The 27-year-old actress first met McRae, a musician and actor who appeared in Daisy Jones and the Six, at the premiere of The Queen's Gambit in March 2021, with McRae sharing a song he wrote about Taylor-Joy two days after their meet-cute.
The couple went public with their romance a year later at a pre-Oscars party, and according to the established timeline, were secretly married shortly afterwards in New Orleans.
However, conflicting reports claimed McRae and Taylor-Joy were married in an "intimate courthouse wedding" in July 2022, according to Page Six, and a "starry" Venice wedding in October 2023, as per PEOPLE. So, the April Fool's joke was apparently on everyone.
