Antonio Conte has made a clear hint about extending his Tottenham contract in the near future, in a move which will delight the club’s fan base.

Tottenham pulled off a coup to bring Conte to North London in November 2021. The Italian has proven himself to be a serial winner during spells in charge of Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Tottenham haven’t lifted any silverware since the 2008 League Cup, so bringing Conte in was viewed as a real signal of intent.

Manchester United had been linked with a move for the coach, but Spurs beat them to the punch and got Conte through the door.

The 53-year-old is now just over a year into his Spurs spell. While he is yet to end their wait for a trophy, he has worked wonders to make them competitive again.

Spurs pipped local rivals Arsenal to fourth spot at the end of last term, qualifying them for this season’s Champions League.

Spurs once again occupy fourth spot in the league this campaign. And they are also through to the Champions League knockout stage after finishing top of Group D with 11 points. They will come up against AC Milan in the round of 16.

Conte is out of contract at the end of the season and Spurs fans are desperate for him to renew so they can continue building towards a potential trophy win.

Antonio Conte responds to questions on future

Ahead of the match against Leeds on Saturday afternoon, Conte was asked about his future. He started off by telling a press conference that he must ‘deserve’ the fresh terms.

“You know very well that my contract expires in June,” he said (via football.london). “Until that moment the club has to make the best evaluation. I think that everything you need to deserve and it will be important to see the rest of the season and if we are happy with the improvement we are doing.

“I think that every situation it’s important to deserve. From my side, it’s important to feel that I deserve a new contract, to sign a new contract with this club. I have to feel this. We will talk with the club and find the best solution.”

Conte then made a big hint that he will be remaining with Spurs, by saying ‘the dream’ is for him to stay.

“But you know, I think when you start a path with a club the dream is to stay here for many years and try to build something important,” he added. “I think it’s very important the relationship you create with the players, the club and the environment around you.

“Don’t forget the ambition. If you’re used to winning, it’s important to match all these situations. If you’re lucky to match all these situations it’s easy for a coach but in modern football it’s different.”

Tottenham boss discusses transfer meetings

Conte was then asked about meeting with director of football Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy about January transfers. He replied: “Every time we speak we always speak together. They are always good conversations.

“The target is only one, to improve, on and off the pitch and then find the best solution in every moment. Until now we’ve worked with only this target to improve and find a good way to bring this club forward.”

When asked to provide team news, Conte continued: “About [Ryan] Sessegnon, today he didn’t train with us. He had a little problem and he’s not available for tomorrow’s game. Richarlison and [Dejan] Kulusevski have another training session before we decide about the starting eleven.”

Meanwhile, Spurs have set up a fierce transfer battle with Manchester United after bowing to a Conte demand.
