Wearing a non-medical face mask does not replace hygiene standards or guarantee protection from COVID-19. You should still avoid touching your face, wash your hands frequently using warm water and soap and practice social distancing.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks have become a staple in our everyday wardrobe. We've had another item added to our checklist before leaving our homes: Phone, keys, wallet, face mask. While we've adapted to mask-wearing, our "new normal" poses some new problems, too — like foggy glasses.

Lucky for us glasses-wearing folks, brands are taking it upon themselves to be technically creative when it comes to developing products to make our mask-donning lives easier. While the average face mask causes our lenses to fog up because of our breath, one Etsy retailer has designed a solution — Anti-Fog Japanese Cotton Face Masks.

Removing glasses to defog them while out and about is annoying — and potentially unhygienic without quick access to hand soap or sanitizer. If you're looking for a way to cut down on foggy glasses, these masks retail for $15 CAD ($12 USD) for one, and have discounted rates when purchased at a package deal.

What are they?

Made of super-soft and breathable Japanese cotton, these masks are perfectly designed to reduce fog by releasing the wearer's breath out of the side of the masks, instead of the top. They're entirely handmade in California and feature adjustable elastic loops to fit comfortably over the ears.

They're a one-size-fits-all, 3D design made to shape to your unique face structure. The brand also makes their masks in a larger size suitable for those buyers with beards or more rounded face shapes. They come in an almost endless amount of colours and patterns, and can be purchased in packs of two, three, four, five and 10.

What shoppers are saying

These face masks, as they have racked up an impressive 4.7-star rating from more than 6,600 customer reviews.

"I bought the pink satin mask and also the lemon linen mask for my husband. Both are lightweight (though the linen is lighter than the satin), soft, and well made," reads one review. "We wear them all the time so we bought two more—the black satin and steel blue cotton."

Another shopper commended the unique design of the masks, writing: "I got the rose gold style and it's so beautiful. The design is different from most other masks I've tried and really is better at keeping steam off my classes. Not 100 per cent, but really close."

For one buyer, the fact that the mask doesn't move around when she speaks is why she loves her purchase.

"I was looking for a full-coverage mask, as the one I have tends to move up my face when I talk," she wrote. "This one fit the bill! It's soft, well made, full coverage without overwhelming my face."

On top of complimenting the overall make and use of the masks, many buyers commended the store for their excellent customer service, quick answers to questions and speed of delivery.

Despite the thousands of five-star reviews from customers, it appears that there is still room for improvement with these fog-free masks. Unlike some other face masks, these don't come with an adjustable wire across the bridge of the nose.

"Love it! Wish you offered them with the wire part on the nose. It would be perfect then," suggested a customer.

The verdict

Considering that we won't be ditching face masks any time soon, it's definitely wise to invest in some updated masks for fall and winter — and If fog has you fumbling, you give the CONICOMasks Anti-Fog Face Masks a shot now that the cooler weather has arrived. However, if you're looking for a non-medical mask with a wire, you'll want to pass on these.
