Antarctic Air Blast Brings Unseasonal Snow to Dunedin, New Zealand

A blast of wintry weather brought snowfall and strong winds to Dunedin, New Zealand, causing the springtime temperatures to plummet well below the average.

The nation’s weather bureau MetService issued a strong wind and heavy snow warning for the Dunedin area, as well as South Island’s southern edge.

Conditions were tipped to ease in the evening, according to MetService.

The colder weather was brought to New Zealand by a storm system spinning south of the country, bringing cold air from Antarctica. Dunedin recorded a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius at midday, according to local media.
