The latest edition of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway went ahead as planned this evening (March 21) without a studio audience due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the show's continuation delighting everyone at home.

However, it has now been confirmed that the rest of this series of Takeaway will no longer be broadcast live.

At the end of tonight's show Dec said: "Join us next week, when we won't be live but we will be back on your screens with the conclusion of 'Men In Brown' for our grand finale."

And the news was confirmed by the show's official Twitter account, which shared a photo of hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly with tonight's celebrity guests Bradley Walsh, Olly Murs, Joel Dommett and Andi Peters.

"Thank you all for joining us tonight! Sadly that was our final live show of the series. We hope it sparked some joy when we all need it most. We'll be back next week with something a bit different. Stay safe everyone! #SaturdayNightTakeaway", they wrote.

Viewers rushed to praise the show's production team, thanking them for making people laugh and taking their minds off current events.

It remains to be seen how next week's show will work but at least we'll be getting another helping of Takeaway joy.

After tonight's Takeaway Ant & Dec also took the opportunity to re-launch ITV's mental health campaign, 'Britain Get Talking', with a video message to the public.

The campaign is being launched in a bid to bring messages of support and love from the public to the screen and to remind us all that talking to each other has never been more important.

"We have never needed each other more, so come on Britain, get talking", Dec said.

There is more information on the campaign website, which also highlights sources of support for viewers who can’t rely on family and friends.

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway airs on ITV.
