Annapurna Interactive, the publisher behind hits like Stray, Outer Wilds, Maquette, and more, recently showcased some upcoming games they’re releasing in the coming years.

Again, Annapurna seems to favour non-traditional, artistic games that take players on very different journeys and tells interesting stories.

Not all games focus on mechanics, but some focus on the player’s journey throughout the game.

Some exciting projects include a dinosaur-themed horror survival, a new game with Katamari Damacy creators, a new mech shooter, a turn-based combat system of a woman against her exes, a road trip about an old man, and more.

Here are some interesting new titles you can expect from Annapurna:

The Lost Wild

One of the highlights of the showcase is a new upcoming horror survival game, something that Annapurna has never released before. The Lost Wild, first unveiled by developer Great Ape Games last year, will challenge players to survive in a hostile world teeming with dinosaurs.

In the trailer, the player stalks through the jungle, avoiding vicious carnivores, all while trying to go around the forest, find a way to survive, escape (or so it seems), and solve some mysteries. It’s pretty reminiscent of the popular movie franchise Jurassic Park.

Based on the trailer's gameplay, it might be similar to games like Alien: Isolation, where players feel like they’re in constant threat.

Little is known about the game, but The Lost Wild’s Steam page indicates that it is a first-person survival horror adventure where you can explore and discover abandoned facilities in a "lush wilderness teeming with prehistoric life".

It also seems that the player will coordinate with an unknown person through the radio, who will help them find out more about the place and eventually escape. Lost Wild is coming in 2024.

Hindsight

A new dramatic game from Prune developer Joel McDonald that was released on 5 August, Hindsight is a slow-paced, story-based game that allows players to look into a woman's life through her possessions.

“Hindsight asks you to slow down and pay attention to the little things left behind. Piece these things together and shift your viewpoint until you find just the right perspective to pull you deeper into the past," the devs said in their preview page on Steam.

If you’re looking for a reflective game that focuses on healing, this looks like it may well be one of those.

Yes, you heard that title right.

Outerloop Games is releasing a game about a woman confronting her exes in cinematic, turn-based fight sequences.

The story is about Jala, who is on the quest to mend broken relationships, meet her parent’s demands, and reconcile with exes, all to prepare for the "impending terrifying visit of Paati, the family’s terrifying and judgmental matriarch".

The gameplay is mostly turn-based with over-the-top combat, upgrades, special abilities, and a unique mood system that allows you to exploit vulnerabilities.

We honestly don’t know what to think about it yet, but you can download the demo on Steam to find out.

The game is coming out sometime in 2022, and will be available on Steam and Xbox Game Pass, but no announcement on the final release date has been revealed.

Dinogod Studio is coming up with a unique take on 3D action named Bounty Star: The Morose Tale of Graveyard Clem. It’s like a marriage between mechs from Gundam or Pacific Rim and the American Wild West.

According to Dinogod, Bounty Star is "an over-the-shoulder 3D action game that combines mech combat and customization with farming and base building".

The player assumes the character of Clem, a military veteran, excellent fighter, and adept mech pilot.

In the Red Expanse, a post-post-apocalyptic version of the American Southwest, Clem tries to get over the guilt and shame of her past and become a real force for good.

The game comes out in 2023.

Forever Ago, a game that German studio Third Shift is working on, has quite a unique concept.

According to the Third shift co-founder Kai Brueckers, Forever Ago is a "story-driven, road trip adventure game where you play as Alfred, an elderly man who embarks on a journey in his trusty van".

Many of the scenes are inspired by the co-founders' trips to North America.

Alfred’s main purpose was to document the trip and go through different challenges along the way.

No date has been announced yet for this game.

Another colourful addition soon to be part of Annapurna’s collection is Flock, a game by Hollow Ponds and Richard Hogg, whose recent works include I am Dead and Hohokum.

Flock is a multiplayer co-op game where players take on the role of shepherds who fly and take care of their own unique flock of cute flying animals.

It’s a pretty fresh concept, and we wonder how it works as a multiplayer game, but if anything, who can resist those adorable sheep?

The game hasn’t announced a released date yet.

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and his game studio Uvula are teaming up with Annapurna Interactive for a "new project".

While this is exciting news, not much was shared except a video teaser of a snoring kid and a dog waking him up. Uvula’s website already has a teaser website for it, but only with the title "New Project" and an image of a teapot.

Uvula's previous projects include Crankin's Time Travel Adventure, Alphabet for PC (available only as part of a Fantastic Arcade bundle), and Tenya Wanya Teens, a game played with a unique 16-button controller.

With Takahashi’s quirky yet fun ideas, we think this is something to watch out for, and we can’t wait for more updates.
