Anitta, Mariska Hargitay, Shonda Rhimes and Amy Schumer Set as Variety Power of Women New York Honorees
Brazilian superstar Anitta, “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay, showrunner and author Shonda Rhimes and comedian Amy Schumer have been selected as the honorees for Variety‘s annual Power of Women New York event, to be held May 2.
The luncheon gathering, presented in partnership with Lifetime, celebrates the charitable work done by the Power of Women New York honorees, who will be featured on four separate covers for the April 30 print edition of Variety. The issue also includes the annual survey of accomplished women in media and entertainment as profiled in the annual Women’s Impact Report. Amber Ruffin, a multihyphenate known for her work on Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” will host the event.

“Variety’s Power of Women franchise is a showcase of the strength exhibited by women in the entertainment community who are driving a dynamic industry forward and using their influence to make the world a better place,” said Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, CEO and Group Publisher of Variety. “We are grateful as always to Lifetime for its unwavering support of this important series of events.”
The Power of Women celebration comes as Anitta is preparing for the release of her highly anticipated new album, “Funk Generation,” on April 26. She will bring awareness to the organization CUFA (Central Única das Favelas), which promotes social action in favelas and peripheral territories through cultural, artistic, sports, educational, and social responsibility projects.
Hargitay, who is marking 25 years of “Law & Order: SVU” this year, will amplify the Joyful Heart Foundation’s mission to transform how law enforcement and others respond to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and to offer support survivors as they seek to reclaim their lives. Rhimes, the influential showrunner and best-selling author, will highlight the work of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, which focuses on disenfranchised Black and Latino communities to use dance, theater training and performances to enrich, inspire and transform the lives of its students.
Amy Schumer, the Emmy-award winning star of “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Trainwreck” and the new Hulu series “Life & Beth,” will voice her support for Everytown for Gun Safety, advocating alongside 10 million members who are committed to ending gun violence.
“I am always so deeply inspired by women who not only talk the talk but also walk the walk through their commitment to empowering others and standing courageously for change. These Power of Women honorees are such incredible examples of women who use their platforms to make our world a better place. It is truly our honor to continue to partner with Variety to highlight these amazing women,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, Executive VP and Head of Programming, A&E, Lifetime & LMN.
Exclusive, curated gift bags will be given to honorees and guests at the event with entertainment, beauty, health and fashion products, from companies including Ouai, Supergoop, Davines, Elemis and Bombas.
