Angelina Jolie has a tight inner circle, and she prefers to keep it that way. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress opened up about not having many close friends and why that doesn't bother her.

When asked which "close friend" she'd be calling in the early hours of the morning, Jolie responded: "I don't really have those kinds of relationships," adding: "Maybe it's losing your parent young. Maybe it's working. Maybe it's being somebody who's been betrayed a lot. I don't have a lot of those warm, close relationships as much that I lean on. But I have a few, and a few is enough."

Jolie says she counts human rights activist Loung Ung as one of her "closest friends," as well as her late mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007 at the age of 56 after being diagnosed with ovarian and breast cancer. "My mother was very close to me. I lost her. I’ve had a few friends over the years not be there for my family in their hour of need," she said. "I have a couple of people that I trust."

But that doesn't mean that Jolie doesn't enjoy other people's company—quite the opposite, actually. Discussing what she likes to do to relax, the Maria star revealed, "If somebody wants to watch bad TV and order Thai food, I’m the first one to put the fuzzy socks on and sit next to them."

She continued, "I like to be with people I love. I’m not somebody begging to be alone. I’m not that person that feels like, 'Oh, I wish I could just be alone so I could have my guilty pleasures.' Because usually my guilty pleasure is being with somebody. I love doing something that makes them happy. That really does make me happy."

This isn't the first time the Oscar winner has opened up about her lack of social life. While speaking with WSJ. Magazine in December 2023, Jolie revealed that her six children—Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16—whom she shares with her ex Brad Pitt are her best friends.

"They are the closest people to me and my life, and they're my close friends," she said. "We're seven very different people, which is our strength."
