Andy Lau to star in new Sun Wukong movie
23 Jan – Andy Lau has recently announced his first film project in 2020 - the fantasy film, "Chuk Sing" (translated as "Seven Saints").
As reported on Mingpao, the actor who will also be producing the new project, told the media at its Beijing press conference that the upcoming film can be described as a prequel to the story of the Monkey King (Sun Wukong).
"After reading the story, I think it's very innovative. It's different from all the other Sun Wukong stories of the past. People usually make films about the character based on the "Havoc in Heavens' Palace" story, but this one is before that. It fills the gap left from the previous films," he said.
In the movie, Andy will play two roles, while mainland actor Li Chengru will be playing the role of the Bull Demon King. Other actors who will be involved in the project include Chinese actress Elane Zhong and Justin Wang.
To be directed by Jingle Ma, the first film of the upcoming series will start production in May.
