“It’s a hymn of triumph, and that’s what I want people to encounter when I sing this song,” she told People before her big moment. “I want them to know that we have victory, and we have peace already… It feels like there’s an honor.”

Day rose to fame with her 2015 debut album Cheers to the Fall, which featured the triple-platinum single “Rise Up” and earned her Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance.

She made her acting debut in 2021 portraying the legendary titular singer in United States vs. Billie Holiday, becoming the second Black woman to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama after Whoopi Goldberg, who took home the statuette in 1986 for portraying Celie in The Color Purple. The United States vs. Billie Holiday soundtrack also earned Day a Grammy in 2022 for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Additional Super Bowl LVIII pregame performers include the iconic Reba McEntire singing the national anthem and Grammy-nominated artist Post Malone belting “America the Beautiful.” Plus, the game wouldn’t be complete without the highly anticipated halftime show, which finds multi-award-winning singer and performer Usher headlining this year.
