I have a confession to make: I own a lot of leggings. Like dozens of pairs. They’re my go-to for everything from working out to hanging out. And back in the day, I even managed to sneak a pair into my office wear without getting dinged by HR.

Like any legging loyalist, I have strong opinions about brands. I know my favorites, and I’m a little cynical about alternatives. So it took me a while to heed the praise for a certain pair on Amazon. The Satina leggings had a lot of buzz and an incredible price (all colors are on sale, starting at $10!). I was skeptical. How good could they be? (Foreshadowing: so good!)

Tip: If you have Amazon Prime, you’ll get free shipping on these. If you aren't a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial here. (And even those without Prime get free shipping on orders of $25 or more).

The story of our eventual meeting isn’t dramatic. I was perusing Amazon’s “recommended products” section when I came upon the leggings. I paused — so many excellent reviews! (Today, it's a No. 1 bestseller with over 45,000 five-star ratings!) Words like “favorite,” “super-soft” and “so comfortable” peppered shopper feedback. I decided it was worth the gamble — especially since working from home is my new reality. I didn’t expect much for so little $$.

Boy, was I wrong.

A couple of days later, the leggings arrive in a sturdy Ziploc-type plastic bag (good for storage). I instantly notice that the Satina leggings don’t feel like any other pair I own — they’re magically soft, in a unique way. The product description had referred to a “super soft peach skin fabric” which I assumed meant a standard blend. But no — the texture actually is like the fuzzy skin of a peach. A bit like microsuede but much finer.

Next up is sizing. The Satina leggings come in only two options: “one size” (meant to fit small through large) and “plus-size” (for XL to XXXL). I’m a medium-to-large, so I go with “one size,” but when I unfold the leggings, I’m worried. They look tiny. Once I shimmy them on, though, the size turns out to be great.

The leggings are comfy, not binding, with a flattering high rise. But while the Satina leggings provide a nice line with the high waist, they don’t offer any compression. So I wouldn’t wear them for intense exercise — just softer activities such as yoga or walking.

Now to consider staying power: A trademark of inexpensive leggings is the tendency to slide down or bunch at the waist. The Satina leggings stay put with no bunching, no sliding. This is huge. Even my Alo Yoga leggings — which cost me more than $100 — start to sag after a bit of wear. The Satinas are also squat-proof. They stay in place when you’re digging through a laundry basket or bending to tie your sneaker.

Thickness-wise, depending on where you stand on the “leggings as pants” debate, you can get away with wearing Satina leggings without covering your tush. That’s a personal decision, but the fabric isn’t see-through, so the choice is yours. I haven’t noticed much pilling, which is good news. There's even a pocketed version now on sale for $14 (was $22). As for length, I’m curious about the capri style, which is marked down to $11, because the full-length are a tad long for me, personally.

The upshot? Though I was fully prepared for an “eh” response to the Satina leggings, I fell in love. These leggings have earned a prime spot in my rotation — I’ve worn them nearly every day since I got them. While I’m not planning on replacing all my Lululemon, Alo and Outdoor Voices leggings any time soon, Satina is my current favorite and I’m guessing it will stay at the top of the stack for a long time.
