Amazon revives star-maker Aussie soap Neighbours

STORY: The popular Australian soap opera Neighbours will return next year.

A deal with tech giant Amazon has been revealed.

It comes just months after millions watched the four-decade old show's apparent finale.

The soap's main financial backer - UK broadcaster Channel 5 - had cut the series, seemingly spelling the end.

Neighbours launched the careers of a number of major Australian celebrities.

Margot Robbie got her big break on the show.

Russell Crowe appeared in four episodes in 1987, years before the Oscar-winner became a Hollywood star.

The three Hemsworth brothers also appeared, as did pop sensation Kylie Minogue.

LA Confidential's Guy Pearce also returned for what was supposed to be the show's last episode.

But the Amazon deal means the show returns in the second half of 2023.

U.S. and British fans will find it on Amazon Freevee - the streaming giant's ad-supported service.

The show will be on the subscription-based Amazon Prime in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Australia's Channel 10 will broadcast episodes before they land on Prime.
