This lightweight puffer is my go-to fall jacket — and it's on sale for $50
As temperatures continue to drop, many are looking for the perfect jacket to wear before they pull out their heavy winter coats and puffers. Even though winter is (sadly) just around the corner, there's one jacket that I've personally been reaching for over and over again during transitional weather.
My trusty Lightweight Hooded Puffer from Amazon Essentials was a purchase last year during Prime Day. The transitional puffer has been my go-to for fall and spring and has earned thousands of customer reviews from Amazon shoppers.

Amazon Essentials Lightweight Hooded Puffer Jacket
The details
Aside from hosting products from hundreds of thousands of retailers, Amazon has their own line of apparel called Amazon Essentials. The Lightweight Hooded Puffer is a machine washable, water-resistant jacket that makes a great transitional option for spring and fall.
I purchased a puffer in black for a weekend getaway to a cottage with my boyfriend and our friends last October. I'm a street size 6 but decided to size up and order a large just in case. I knew we were going to be spending a lot of time outside hiking and canoeing and wanted something lightweight with pockets that I could wear over a sweater or sweatshirt.
First impressions
I was pleased with how quickly the puffer arrived and was really impressed with how warm it was despite its lightweight feel. The jacket comes with a small pouch so that you can easily pack your jacket away without taking up too much space in your bag or backpack.
I wore the jacket the entire weekend during hikes and around the campfire. When we returned home I threw the jacket into the wash to get the smell of smoke out of my jacket and have washed it several times since!
What others are saying
I was very skeptical about buying a jacket sight unseen, but I had no choice on this Amazon-exclusive item. It's actually embarrassing how much I buy on Amazon— but no matter what I order, I always check out the customer reviews and look for products with hundreds, if not thousands of reviews.
The Amazon Essentials Lightweight Hooded Puffer currently has a solid 4.4-star rating based on more than 12,000 customer reviews. I felt good about my purchase after checking out what other Amazon shoppers had to say about their puffer and whether or not it was worth the money.
One Amazon shopper wrote that they were "so impressed" with this lightweight puffer, complimenting its "flattering fit" and quality material.
"It's way better than expected," another wrote. "It's warm, light and has good quality zippers."
Some shoppers said the jacket was great for layering with sweaters and sweatshirts for fall, while others commended Amazon on the style that prompts compliments from passersby.
Although there are thousands of five-star reviews, some shoppers said that they had problems with the fit of their jacket. Many suggested sizing up to avoid a tight, awkward fit, especially at the arms. Another concern was that the difficult to pack the jacket into the carrying pouch - but that wasn't really a concern of mine and definitely not a dealbreaker not to place my order.
Verdict
I'm very pleased with my lightweight puffer and very surprised that I was able to get a great fall and spring jacket on Amazon of all places. If you're looking for something sporty, you'll definitely want to try a jacket that's designed for running or outdoor activities in a breathable fabric, but the polyester works for me and my lifestyle.
My puffer is now a sentimental clothing item for me; during our weekend getaway my boyfriend surprised me and proposed during a morning hike. All of my photos from that day are of me wearing my Amazon jacket (of all things) but I love it and love wearing it as a reminder of that day.
