KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu arrived at Istana Negara at 3pm today for a scheduled audience with the King.

He was seen entering Gate 2 of Istana Negara with his retinue.

Earlier at 2pm, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng arrived at Istana Negara for an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as well.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was seen exiting the palace after an hour, at 4:05pm.

Speaking briefly to the press, Mohamad said he had a good discussion with Sultan Abdullah on matters pertaining to the current Covid-19 situation as well as parliamentary democracy.

“The King and I had a very good discussion. I was able to express my opinion on the current Covid-19 situation as well as issues on parliamentary democracy,” he said.

When asked if a change in government was raised during his royal audience, Mohamad replied that it was not.

The Kota Raja MP said he conveyed the current hardships faced by Malaysians to the King, relating that more people were visiting his parliamentary service centre to ask for food aid.

DAP’s Lim exited Istana Negara earlier, at around 3pm after spending an hour with Sultan Abdullah.

The Bagan MP told reporters he discussed the current Covid-19 situation and the state of the economy. He declined to answer when asked if a change of government was discussed.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had been granted an audience earlier today.

The PKR president said he pled with Sultan Abdullah not to extend the state of Emergency beyond August 1, among other issues.

Parti Pejuang Tanah Air pro-tem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are due to meet Sultan Abdullah tomorrow.

Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who was expected at the palace today did not turn up. It is understood that his audience has been rescheduled to a later undisclosed date.
