‘I am not a smoker,’ says Tanah Merah MP after being accused of vaping in Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Perikatan Nasional’s Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz has reportedly denied vaping in the Dewan Rakyat after a picture of him holding an object to his mouth circulated on social media.
Free Malaysia Today reported last night that Ikmal Hisham said the item in question was a pen for writing, not vaping.
“Everyone knows that I am not a smoker. I can’t even stand being next to one, what more vaping,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.
Ikmal Hisham said he was among those who backed former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin in the tabling of the Control of Tobacco Product and Smoking Bill 2022, which is more commonly known as the Generational End Game (GEG) Bill.
The former deputy defence minister said he was prepared to explain his alleged vaping to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul who had said that he would issue a letter to Ikmal.
On Tuesday, a picture of Ikmal Hisham holding a pen-like object to his mouth went viral on social media.
It was said to have been taken during the mass walkout staged by the Opposition from the Dewan Rakyat in protest against a verbal tiff between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Putrajaya MP Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.
