Almost 40 Fires Burn in New South Wales as Temperatures Soar

Almost 40 fires burned in New South Wales on Monday, March 6, as temperatures continued to soar in the Australian state, officials said.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service said hundreds of firefighters were working to contain the fires as Sydney was reported to have recorded its hottest day in more than two years with temperatures reaching 99.7 degrees Fahrenheit (37.6 Celsius).

The Bureau of Meteorology said hot and dry conditions were expected to continue across eastern and northern New South Wales throughout the week.
