Has it happened yet?
By it, I mean: has your makeup melted straight off your face this summer?
If you’re a big fan of the “no makeup look” and use a lot of clean beauty brands, understandable - the humidity is unspeakable and only gets worse during this time of year.
Notoriously streaky and greasy under the pressure of high temperatures, many natural and organic products have a hard time holding up in water and the summer heat.
This is especially true for skin-loving ingredients with high-oil content (when applied to naturally oily skin) and underdeveloped formulas that promise a little too much.
A product may go on beautifully, but when the results begin to mudslide in a matter of hours, it can be disappointing.
That said, the formulation of natural makeup products has come a long way and in 2020, the number of quality offerings is seriously off the charts.

Below, I serve you this year’s best all-natural, melt-proof beauty products in every category of face paint, from base layer primers to water-resistant foundations, and innovative blushes to sealing setting sprays.

SHOP IT: Milk Makeup, $30
An award-winning primer with a loyal fan base, Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer contains a shot of blue agave extract that grips makeup for an all-day hold. Skin-boosting aloe water, hyaluronic acid, cherry, and vitamins B3 and B5 sweeten the deal.
SHOP IT: Bare Minerals, $32
Available in 35 different shades, BareMinerals Performance Wear Powder Foundation is sweat-proof for up to 12 hours thanks to its absorbent star ingredient, silica. It also helps clarify the skin, reduce pore size and appearance, and controls shine.
SHOP IT: Fitglow Beauty, $48
The creamy texture of Fitglow Beauty’s full-covereage Conceal + treatment blends seamlessly under or over top of foundation and camouflages trouble spots in a snap. Plus, a special combination of phyto elastin, organic green tea, vitamin K, and licorice root brighten and smooth the skin below surface level. It’s matte finish flatters all skin types and once you apply one of the 15 shades, it won’t budge.
SHOP IT: True Glue, $25
As the first company to create a natural lash adhesive, True Glue hit the mark with its Lazy Daisy Long Lasting Liner - a waterproof pencil formulated with vegetable-based skin conditioners and plant-derived oils like jojoba and marula. Its soft texture is perfect for sensitive eyes and a convenient smudging tip allows you to add definition and shape to your lids without irritation.
SHOP IT: Kosas, $38
This might be the fastest-drying eyeshadow you’ll ever use - and the prettiest range of colours you’ve ever seen too. Kosas’s 10-Second Eyeshadows are water-based and crease-resistant, making buildable, high-impact colour easier to achieve than ever before. A single swipe of shimmery, watercolour-like paint across the lid stays all day long.
SHOP IT: Well People, $20
A clean beauty cult-favourite, Well People’s Expressionist Pro Mascara creates highly defined and deeply conditioned lashes. The innovative brush designed with molded rubber (that’s totally safe for your eyes, by the way) separates the thinnest, shortest, and hardest-to-reach lashes in one lengthening scoop.
Hot tip: The Expressionist Pro Mascara also makes a fabulous brow gel. If I had photo evidence (not so much a selfie gal), I could prove it. But, it looks like you’ll just have to trust me on this one... or this makeup artist on why you should be using mascara on your brows.
SHOP IT: Clove + Hallow, $26
Like a lip tint for the cheeks, Clove + Hallow’s Hydratint Blush Serums have a lightweight, satin-y finish that dries in seconds and adds a natural-looking flush to the face. Infused with meadowfoam oil and hyaluronic acid, they replenish the skin and play up a dewy look at the same time.
SHOP IT: Rituel de Fille, $32
Rituel de Fille’s Alchemist Intensifier might just be the highlighter to end all highlighters. In fact, its the highlighter for your highlighters - a “transformative topper for your favourite luminous products”, as the brand likes to say. The Alchemist Highlight Intensifier is remarkably radiant, goes on creamy, and mesmerizes with an iridescent glimmer that won’t spread its sparkle anywhere else. One application gives you perma-shine (see the photo at the beginning of this article for proof).
SHOP IT: Bite Beauty, $24
Famous for its Lip Lab, Bite Beauty continues to impress with its collection of intensely bold colours, including its Outburst shades. With the precision of a lipstick, hydration of a balm, and long-wearing colour of a waterproof stain, Bite’s Outburst tubes are loaded with nourishment from passionflower and coconut oil. As NewBeauty’s 2020 Winner for Best Lip Stain, you’ll want to get your hands on a Sangria Slush (pictured above), Strawberry Frozé or an Orange Fizz before summer’s over.
SHOP IT: True Botanicals, $28
Listed as one of the top-selling setting sprays of 2020 by trusted beauty source Byrdie, True Botanicals’s Renew Nutrient Face Mist not only quenches and refreshes skin, it keeps makeup in place. Scented with anti-aging jasmine, neroli, and rose, the Nutrient Face Mist works double time by restoring pH, healing and detoxifying skin with star ingredient, kombucha.
SHOP IT: 100% Pure, $12
On the off-chance that your T-zone gets glossy, 100% Pure’s Blotting Papers are at your rescue. Dab away oil or touch up your makeup with sheets made out of antibacterial wood pulp and hemp fibres that absorb and erase shine.
