Alix Earle and her sister Ashtin recounted a scary experience they had while flying with their family where she thought they were "going to die."

On the Hot Mess podcast on Nov. 21, the 23-year-old spoke about the flight experience which was prefaced as a "near-death experience" in the official episode description. In the episode, she detailed how she and her family flew from New Orleans to Los Angeles after visiting Ashtin at Tulane University for parent's weekend.

"Every person in our family on this flight [was together]," Alix explained. "We were three and a half hours into this flight... it was just smooth sailing and all of a sudden, I thought that we landed because it felt like we hit a wall."

Alix then described how one of the flight attendants — who was handing out drinks at the time — fell into someone's seat from the impact of the jolt and the other flight attendants had everyone get into their seats while the plane violently shook.

"Everyone's heads were bobbling, and it [lasted] 30 seconds to a minute," Alix said as Ashtin noted that the worst of it lasted "15 seconds" before the plane stabilized after a minute. Both sisters added that they were both freaked out the rest of the flight after that.

The captain later announced that the flight experienced "clear air turbulence," which Alix explained is basically "a storm in the sky that you can't see."

"Every photo I [saw] online of clear air turbulence [showed] the face mask down, the seats are dislocated [and] people are upside down," she continued. "And I was like 'Well, thank God that we were okay.' "

"I thought that we were all going to die," Alix added. "I genuinely thought, 'Okay, our whole family line is going to be discontinued because we're all going to die on this flight.' " She also recalled looking out the plane while it shook and thinking they were making an emergency landing in the mountains, which she said she was "freaked out" by as well.

Ashtin also explained that before the flight back, she thought about how her college roommate's parents like to fly out separately when they travel together, which added to the terrifying experience.

"They have this weird thing about both being on flights together because they have a history with planes going down, and it's like at least there'll be one parent [if something happened]," she said. "So that was prevalent in my mind."
