The casting news also marks a reunion for Woodward and Underwood, who previously teamed up for the Netflix drama “Juanita,” Showtime’s “The Wishing Tree” and the stage show “Love Letters.” The pair of entertainers have had an equally long history offscreen. In 1989, Woodard and Underwood co-founded Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), an organization to support the mission to end apartheid, alongside fellow actors like Danny Glover, Mary Steenburgen and CCH Pounder.
Woodard is set to play Dr. Johnetta, a psychiatrist specializing in deep trauma, in the thriller, which follows Underwood’s character Andrew as he falls into paranoia after his wife Jules (“Roswell, New Mexico” star Jeanine Mason) goes missing. As the film progresses, Andrew begins to find his way out of the self-destructive cycle through his new girlfriend Emilia (Emmy winner Sarah Silverman).
Rounding out the cast of the independent feature, written by Joe McClean, are Clint James, Brendan Burke, Erik Jensen, Samuel Garnett, Jo Twiss and Connor Paolo. In addition to Underwood, the film is produced by McClean, Daniel Cypress and York Films’ John Kalafatis, Joanna Kalafatis and Andreas Ignatiou.
Woodard has built a storied resume in Hollywood over the course of her career, most recently starring in “Clemency” (for which she earned a BAFTA and Independent Spirit Award nomination) and in the Apple TV plus series “See” with Jason Momoa. In addition to her Oscar nomination for her supporting turn in 1983’s “Cross Creek” and Emmy wins, the celebrated actor has collected three SAG Awards (with seven nominations), nine NAACP Image Awards (on 21 nominations), an Independent Spirit Award (with two nods) and a Grammy Award.
Woodard will next be seen in two Netflix films, starring opposite Kevin Hart in “Fatherhood,” and in Anthony and Joe Russo’s action movie “The Gray Man,” with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.
She is repped by ICM Partners, Circle of Confusion and Gochman Law Group.
