Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly decided where to play his football next season with both Manchester United and Liverpool holding talks over signing him.

The 24-year-old star has enjoyed a stellar season, having scored 11 times for the Seagulls to underline his emerge as one of the Premier League’s best all-round midfielders. And having won the World Cup with Argentina earlier this season, Mac Allister now looks ready to take his career to the next level.

Understandably, that has led to plenty of interest in the talented star. Manchester United were initially reported to have held talks over a deal, though lately it is Liverpool who have moved to the front of the queue.

Indeed, a report on Saturday claims Klopp has given his club’s hierarchy permission to seal an impressive triple coup.

And now, according to Football Insider, Mac Allister has made clear his wish to sign for Liverpool this summer.

Claiming that further talks are scheduled to take place this week, they state the Argentine has made clear he is ‘very keen’ to join the Reds.

And with an ‘ongoing dialogue’ between the two clubs, an agreement could soon be reached over a transfer.

Liverpool appear to have honed in on Mac Allister after deciding against a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. The lofty valuation of the England star – together with the scale of the rebuild needed at Anfield – means a deal this summer appears unlikely.

Instead Liverpool are pursuing a deal for at least three new midfield stars – with Mac Allister increasingly looking likely to sign on the dotted line first.

Ornstein reveals Mac Allister contract clause

Now Liverpool’s chances of sealing a deal are reportedly rising following a big revelation from David Ornstein. And The Athletic journalist claims Mac Allister’s deal at Brighton contains a clause specific aiding his chances of sealing a move away.

He claims that, despite signing a new contract in October that secured him until 2025, there is a “good chance” Mac Allister will depart the Amex this summer.

And the trusted journalist claims that, in the terms of that new deal, there contains what he describes as a “mechanism” which can by used to help facilitate a move. As a result, and with Liverpool and United aware, that has contributed to the level of interest building to prise Mac Allister away.

While Ornstein claims it is not a typical release clause other clubs may simply need to trigger, it does involve a more complex feature that gives Brighton a say over the outcome.

And while a move to Anfield is not a foregone conclusion, a firm decision is likely to arrive at the end of the season.

The same arrangement also reportedly exists in Moises Caicedo’s recently-signed contract. That negotiation tactic is also reportedly used to  tie down the star to his new deal, despite Arsenal’s interest.

The Seagulls, though, will not want to sell both midfield players. And it could be that Mac Allister’s move will ensure Caicedo stays at the Amex, for the time being at least.

Brighton reportedly rate Mac Allister in the £70m bracket, though recent reports claim a move to Anfield may actually only set the Reds back around £53m.
