Alert Sounds in Mexico City After Earthquake Near Acapulco

Earthquake alerts were heard in Mexico City and flashes from damaged power lines seen against the skyline as a powerful quake that struck near Acapulco on September 7 was felt in the capital.

Video filmed in Mexico City shows the flashes, as the “alerta sismica” warning is heard.

The 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit just before 9 pm on Tuesday evening, Mexico’s national seismological agency said.

Around 1.6 million customers were without power in Mexico City, but there were no reported injuries, according to officials.
