Alan Carr has revealed his friendship with Adele didn't prevent her advising him to stay in a hotel rather than her home when he recently visited LA.

The 44-year-old comic and the 33-year-old chart-topper have been buddies for years, since meeting at the BRIT Awards in 2008.

But on the latest episode of Carr's podcast Life's a Beach, guest-starring actor Olivia Cooke, he revealed that his friend didn't seem keen to throw open her doors when he last visited the States.

Carr said: "I was hoping to stay at Adele's house, but she went: "why don't you stay at this hotel?'"

The comedian added: "I looked at the website and it looked weird. There was a massive Jack of clubs, there was a chess piece.

"It was like 'this feels a bit odd'. But I know it's amazing."

Cooke joked that Adele has "got enough rooms" to accommodate all of her friends when they visit, given the scale of her £8m mansion in Beverly Hills.

But the hotel the singer recommended was the luxurious and trendy Petit Ermitage in West Hollywood, with rooms from just shy of £200 per night.

Adele and Carr's friendship even extended to the singer officiating his wedding to long-term partner Paul Drayton in January 2018.

Carr told This Morning that she offered to "do everything" when she heard the couple were planning to finally tie the knot.

He said: "So she did everything, and she got ordained, and she married us. She is the kindest, most sweetest, loveliest person ever."

The comic teased Adele fans earlier this year when he revealed that he had heard some of the "amazing" tracks from her upcoming album — her first since 25 was released in 2015.
