Air National Guard Battles Caldor Fire Near Lake Tahoe, California

Evacuation orders were downgraded in El Dorado County, California, on Monday, September 6, after fire crews reached 44 percent containment on the 216,358-acre Caldor Fire the same day.

This footage released by Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit shows two California Air National Guard helicopters collecting water out of Caples Lake near Kirkwood.

South Lake Tahoe residents were allowed to return home after the area’s evacuation order was changed to a warning on Sunday. Residents were told they may not have working utilities or clean drinking water and were advised to check for “damages, hot spots, and hazardous materials” upon their return, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
