Fashionistas had to wait patiently for the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Dior to come out this year, since they were delayed by the global pandemic. It was one of the most popular fashion collaborations of 2020, along with the ready-to-wear collection co-signed by Disney and Gucci.
While the covid-19 crisis shook up the fashion trends of the year, it didn't affect the sneaker market; these remained a highly coveted fashion accessory worldwide, with some sneaker lovers ready to spend a fortune on rare models. The most sought-after sneaker collaboration of the year was the one by Air Jordan and Dior. According to the Year in Fashion 2020 report by the global fashion search platform Lyst , the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Dior shoes currently resell for 300% higher than their original price (source: StockX).
Among the other popular collaborations of the year were the Disney x Gucci ready-to-wear collection, launched at the beginning of 2020, the Casablanca x New Balance collaboration, the Dior x Rimowa suitcases, and the Birkenstock x Proenza Schouler sandals.
As for the most prized pieces, the pandemic had a direct impact on consumer choices. Masks have, quite obviously, become the must-have item of the year 2020, mask search requests recording a 502% increase worldwide on Lyst. And in this category, the mask with the Off-White logo comes out on top, with a 496% increase in searches online between January and March.
Other favorites were knitted dresses, sweatpants, shorts, sandals and even clogs -- the more casual the better during a year marked by several lockdowns.
The Lyst Year in Fashion report is based on analysis of the behavior of over 100 million consumers who searched for and bought their fashion items online in 2020 from 12,000 brands and stores. The Year in Fashion report takes into account global searches on Lyst and Google, conversion rates and sales, social media mentions for brands and products, as well as engagement statistics, since January 2020.
